lemon poppyseed cream cheese cookies

I love citrus.  I love it so much I bought a bar of lemon soap at Trader Joe's so I can shower with lemon (I highly recommend this!).  These cookies are soft and subtle and definitely have a creamy flavor.  Of course the poppyseeds make them fancy.

lemon poppyseed cream cheese cookies (blog: Heather's Dish)
4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
juice and zest from 1 lemon
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream together the butter and cream cheese.  Add the sugars, egg, extract and lemon juice.  Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.  Add to the wet ingredients and mix until just incorporated.  Add the zest and the poppy seeds, mix until evenly distributed.  Spoon the dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat (I used cooking spray directly on the cookie sheet).  Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.  The cookies will not really change color except on the bottom so be sure to check they're not burning.  Let cool on a rack then they are ready to eat.
